MY CHILDHOOD

Do some smells remind you of your childhood? What associations do they have?
The smell of clay reminds me of when I was at primary school , and we played with the clay to make figures. Among other smells, I've always liked the smell of Nenuco perfume, because it reminds me when I was five years old and my mum put me some of this perfume. When I smell Nenuco perfume, I can imagine my mother dressing and embracing me before going to school.

What about sounds? Do some sounds or songs have strong associations for you positive or negative?
Yes, I really like the sound of the zipper of a tent opening. It makes me think of my holidays in Cazorla. I have been there every summer since I was born, with some friends and their families. Because of it, when I listen to a zipper of a tent, it brings me great memories. Also, certain songs bring me back memories. The song 'Let her go' of Passenger reminds me of last summer in the bus to 'Magic Island'(Sevilla). During the trip, Lucia, who is one of my best friends and I were singing that song. We really loved it!

What can we tell people who want to hurt peaceful people?

I think there are lots of people who want to hurt peaceful people.
Some years ago, they discriminated much more than now. If you were born woman, your life was based on being the servant of your husband, and you couldn't do anything without his consent. In fact, a long time ago, you could die according to your religion.
Actually, in Spain we are all free, but in other countries that's a reality.

Returning to the subject of this comment, there are lots of people inthis world that hurt other people. Because of it, there are many wars, and many cases of bullying, terrorism, etc. I don't know why we hurt or kill each other if we are all human! Maybe, they kill because they can't distinguish between what's good and what's wrong. So, we should educate them. But maybe, they kill for fun.

TERROR IN PARIS!!!! Nous sommes tous Paris!!!

It's terrible what happened on last 13th Friday in Paris. There were several terrorist attacks. There was a shooting at the restaurant Petit Cambodge, a second shooting in the 'Bataclan Theatre' and an explosion in a brewery near 'The France Stade'. In total, 137 people killed and 415 people injured.

These terrorists or 'Yiadists' have said that they will attack again. Their new goals are London, Rome and Grenade! I'm a bit frightened because of it. I think it's going to be a world war.

Because of what happened on Friday 13th, the Eiffel Tower turned off its lights and thousands of famous monuments all around the world dressed with the French flag. In fact, for the first time since its opening, Disney Land Paris closed its doors for a day.
Now, I would like to give my personal opinion. I reckon that we are giving too much importance to all this that has happened in Paris. Everyday, people die, especially in third world countries, and nobody does anything.

On the same day that Paris attacks happened, there was an earthquake in Japan, a funeral bombed in Baghdad, a suicide bombing in Beirut and another earthquake in Mexico. In 24 hours, we lost 115,200 heartbeats.

Eating less meat could save 45,000 lives a year, experts claim.

I can't believe it! Well...I've always known that eating too much meat isn't very healthy, but I didn't know it can cause 45,000 deaths a year! That's a big problem, especially for Spain. In my opionion, most Spanish people usually eat meat, and it can produce obesity, and other problems like cancer. However, we can't forget to eat meat sometimes, because it contributes with vitamins that are necessary for our body.
At home, I usually eat meat, and I hardly ever eat fruit and vegetables. My parents always tell me that I have to eat more fruit and vegetables, but I don't want listen to them.
I reckon we should start to eat more healthily, and avoid going to fast food restaurants like Mc Donald's or Burger King, whose meats we really don't know of which animal it is from.
Let's do it!

MY VILLAGE NOW AND 50 YEARS AGO

I live in a small village in the south of Spain, called Lobres. It's too different now from fifty years ago.
Lobres is bigger than fifteen years ago. There didn't use to be any buildings, there used to be old houses. Now, there are houses and some block of flats. There used to be a sugar factory near my village. Nowadays, it's an alcohol factory. There used to be just tracks, and the cattle moves on it. Now, there are cobbed streets, and it's very difficult to see any cattle around the village. There also used to be a bridge, which was destroyed by a flood. Today it's reformed, although it isn't so beautiful as the first one.

Transport is also different. My parents have told me that they used to use carriages to move from one place to another. Now, most people have cars, and we can also take the bus or a taxi. In fact, there didn't use to be a motorway near my village and now, there is one.

Fifty years ago there wasn't much to do in my village, but children had fun just with a stick and a Stone. On the contrary, children of these days have fun differently, mainly thanks to the advanced technologies. In Lobres, there isn't still much to do, except for our great park and our fantastic swimming pool.

In conclusión, life was quieter then, but in my opinión it's better now.

MO MALONE

Who was Mo Malone?
I didn't know who he was until I searched some information about him in the Internet.

Mo Malone or Moses Eugene Malon, was born in Petesburg, Virginia, on 23rd Mars, 1955, and he died in Norfolk, Virginia, on 13th September, 2015 at the age of sixteen. He died because of a heart attack while he was sleeping.
He was a professional basketball player who served in both the NBA (National Basketball Association) and the ABA (American Basketball Association) from 1974 through 1995.
He also won lots of awards during his career. In fact, Malone won an NBA championship in 1983.

In my opinion, Mo Malone was a great basketball player and it's a pity that he died so young. However, we have also good basketball players, like Pau Gasol or Rudy Fernandez.

THIS IS ME, BY MARIA JOSE

To begin with, I'm going to write about my image. In my opinion, I'm trendy. I almost always wear T-shirts and jeans that suit me, although I wear smart clothes on special ocassions like Christmas Eve or New Year. I sometimes wear make-up. However, I never wear a bracelet or a necklace.

What things do I love doing? I really love getting up late on Saturday and Sunday mornings. It's fantastic! I also love metting my friends at the wekend, and going shopping. The other thing I love is my mobile. I can't live without it! I really love taking photos of me and my friends.

On the contrary, there are also things that I hate. I hate studying and doing my homework, but I always do them, because I want to pass my exams. If I get good results, I get a university degree in some years. Because of it, I will win lots of money. An other thing that I really hate is boring people. When I'm with that kind of people I'm so bored that I'd just go to sleep.

NO SMOKING: Drive me home, Daddy!!

In the UK, there are about 10,000 million adult smokers and most of them also smoke while they're driving, although children come along with them.
I reckon it's a great idea this new law of England and Wales of not smoking in cars with children. In my opinion there should be a similar law in Spain.
Drivers and passengers that break the law could face a fine of £50.
Because of the parents who smoke in cars, children become passive smokers, and they might have asthma, meningitis, etc.
I think it's also good that the law says that it's banned to smoke even if windows are open, because smoke can stay in the air for up to two and a half hours even windows are open.
But, I don't entirely agree with the law when it says "Whenever an under -18 is in the car, smokers will still be liable even if windows are down or sunroof open". I reckon if the teenager that goes in the car also smokes, the driver shouldn't be fined.

But this isn't the only problem, lots of people die each year because of smoking and doing other activities that can distract you while you're driving. In addiction, smoking can distract drivers.

Do you really want this?

AINHOA AND ME

Ainhoa is my best friend. I have known her since my childhood and we have always been together. I love her a lot!!

My friend Ainhoa is very beautiful. She's got green eyes and long brown hair. She's got shightly dark skin. She isn´t tall, but she isn´t short, either.

My friend and I have got similar interests. She likes buying clothes, going to the cinema, dancing. She also loves animals. And I, I like buying clothes too, dancing, singing, walking my dog, etc.

But we also have some differences. She hates studying and doing homework, in fact she repeated first of ESO. However, now she's studying more and she passes her exams. An other difference is that she's daring, and I'm not. I'm a bit shy.

MAGIC JOHNSON

Earvin 'Magic' Johnson was born on 14th August, 1959, in Lansing, Michigan. He's a retired American profession basketball player who played point guard for Los Angeles Lakers of the NBA for thirteen seasons. He won championships in the high school and college. Johnson was selected first in the 1979 NBA draft by the Lakers. He won five Championships and a NBA finals during the 1980s. Magic Johnson retired in 1991 when he announced he had contracted HIV, but he returned to play in the 1992 All-Star Game, winning the All-Star MVP Award. During his career, he had won lots of awards.

The nickname 'Magic' comes from the high school and it's due to its great ability to pass, that allowed him to hand out many assists.

He's considered as one of the best basketball players in the NBA history.

BLOOD

WHAT DOES BLOODY MEAN?
WHAT'S BLOOD?

Bloody means 'Sangriento, maldito, dichoso, etc'. In the UK it's also used as an intensifier of an adjective 'very, as'.
Blood is a bodily fluid in animals that delivers necessary substances like nutrients and oxygen to the cells and transports waste products far from those same cells.

Blood is responsible of the coagulation, transport hormones, regulation of body pH and body temperature, supply of oxygen to tissues, removal of waste, etc.

The average adult has a blood volume of five litres, which is composed of plasma and several kinds of cells (red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets).

I reckon the most important things you can do to have a healthy heart is do exercise, not smoke, not drink too much alcohol and have a balanced diet.

JURASSIC WORLD, THE NEW BLOCKBUSTER

WHAT ARE DINOSAURS??
Dinosaurs are a diverse group of animals of the clade Dinosauria. They first appeared during the Triassic period, 231,4 millions years ago, and they were the dominant vertebrates for 135 million years. Dinosaurs became extinct. It's believed it was produced by a meteorit.

Today, there are lots of films about dinosaurs. These films create models of dinosaurs from wood, plastic, paper, iron and other materials.

I saw Jurassic World at the cinema last Wednesday. Jurassic World is an American science fiction adventure of dinosaurs film directed by Colin Trevorrow. The film was released on June 11th, 2015. It's based in the other three films of Jurassic Park. This is a film which has been most seen since Titanic.
During the first weekend, the film won the record of the highest growing film in the world, beating the saga of 'The Avengers' and the last film in the saga of Harry Potter. It raised nearly 731 million of dollars in the first week. Currently, Jurassic World is in the third place of the highest- grossing films.

'The park opens its doors after twenty-five years, after the closure of Jurassic Park. The park is working on a new attraction with a new dinosaur called 'Indominux Rex' more intelligent and fiercer than any other. What would happen if it escaped?'

I know that most of the dinosaurs in this film were created digitally, but others were handmade, because the actors had to interact with them in the film.

I reckon Jurassic World is one of the best films I've ever seen.

HAVE YOU EVER VISITED PARIS?

I was in Paris in February with the Official Language School. It was an awesome trip! It was the first time that I was in France. We were there for one week, it was very cold but it rained only one of these days.
In Paris, we saw lots of famous monuments and places like the Eiffel Tower, The Louvre Musuem where I could see for the first time 'The Mona Lisa', we also saw The Notre Dame's Cathedral, the most famous cemetery in the world 'Cimetiére du Pére Lachaise, where there are buried many famous people like Eugene Delacroix, Victor Noir, Gilbert Becaud, Oscar Wild, etc. One thing that I really liked was the boat trip by the river Seine. We also visited 'Galeries Lafayette' where there were lot of make up, clothes, etc, but they were very expensive.
We moved from place to place through Paris by subway and RER.
In summary, I did lots of things that I wanted to do since I was little, even, a man made a caricature of me :)
And the most important, I revised my French!! I would like to go once again.

MARINA

I'd like to recommend a book which I read recently, called Marina. The author of the book is Carlos Ruiz Zafon.

The book is a mystery and the setting is Barcelona nowdays. The main characters are two young teens. Oscar, the narrator of the story, who is a boy which is in a boarding school and Marina, a very interesting girl who lives in an old strange house.

The things I liked most about the book were the characters, and the plot. Some of the scenes were really good, but I was a bit scared.

All in all, I have really liked the novel, it has a memorable ending. It's also easy to read and it has a good message about life.

Council of Lobres
Real Street
Lobres
18610

Dear Sir or Madam:

I represent a group called 'Save our village'. I am writing to you because we are concerned about plans to close the park near Lobres, and sell the land to a company that wants to build a motorway.

In our opinión, motorways produce lots of noise and they are dangerous, especially for children that play near there. On the other hand, motorways produce a lot of pollution, so that is bad for our people. Motorwys should be far from villages where people are safe. A park is better because they are beautiful places to walk your dog, have fun, play in the swings. So, definitely, the parkshould not be closed.

We have therefore decidesbto take action, and we are going to organize a march in the streets. For this reason, we are sending you this letter and we hope that you will suppoort us.

Yours fainthfully,

María José García
Group Coordinator
'Save our village' organization.

DO COW FARTS REALLY SIGNIFICANTLY CONTRIBUTE TO GLOBAL WARMING?

The text says that there are some scientists and experts that have studied how cow farts contribute to global warming. There are lots of cows in the world (about 1.3 to 1.5 billion) and their farts expel a big amount of methane gas, so that's a problem. Methane gas is very harmful for the environment, and it contributes to wipe out the ozone layer.
For this problem, scientists and experts have proposed some solutions:
One of the solutions is putting garlick in cows' food, because it helps them to expel less methane gas.
Another solution is adding plants with high levels in tannis to their diet.
Finally, some farms have experimented putting their cows into a plastic bubble, which takes the expelled gas and turns it into electricity.
I reckon that it's cruel and inhuman. Animals shouldn't live inside artificial bubbles.
So what's the conclusion of the text?
I really think that cow farts really contribute to Global Warming, although we have just seen that there are several solutions to reduce methane gas. If cows change their diet, they will expel less methane gas.

HOME SCHOOLING

Home schooling is the education of children inside the home. Either a tutor teaches the chidren or his father or mother. In my opinion, home schooling is a good solution if you  you hate going to shcool for several reasons, such as students teasing you. The good thing of home schooling is that you don't have to get up early and maybe you have to do less homework. But the bad thing is that you don't have as many friends as a student at a state school.
State schools are also called public schools outside the UK, generally to refer to primary or secondary schools. Almost all students come to state schools, because you don't have to pay.
Private schools are schools where childen whose parents are rich usually go. They're good because they have a high level of English, but you must wear a uniform and you have to study more at a state school.
A boarding school is a school where pupils study and live during the school year. Usually. they go there because they're bad students or their parents haven't much time to care for them, so they send their children to borading schools.
I hate boarding schools! I reckon teachers are very strict with pupils.
I'm at a state school and I think that it doesn't matter where you are if you want to study.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR 2015!!

It's finally new year 2015!!
On New Year's Eve all the people in the world celebrate the New Year. Some people celebrate the New Year with their families and other people go to party with their friends.

Usually, people eat twelve grapes, twelve seconds before twelve o'clock. And when it's twelve o'clock people are very happy and kiss the family and friends, because it's New Year.
Finally, the next day some families, like mine, go to have lunch at a restaurant.

I hardly ever think in my resolutions for the new year. But I'm going to say some of them for the 2015:
-I promise that I'm going to be more responsible.
-I promise I'm going to eat more.
-I promise I'm going to study one week before an exam.

And that is all !! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2015 :D

THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS

Este es el enlace para ver mi nuevo power point sobre el libro The Last of The Mohicans de la editorial Penguin Readers.
Power Point The Last of The Mohicans

And this is a small biography of its autor:

JAMES FENIMORE COOPER
He was born on 15th September, 1789 and he died on 14th September, 1851. Cooper was a prolific and popular American writer of the early 19th century. His historical romances of frontier and Indian life in the early American days created a unique form of American literature. He lived most of his life in Cooperstown, New York, which was founded by his father William on property he owned. Cooper was a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church and in his later years contributed generously to it. He attended Yale University for three years, where he was a member of the Linonian Society, but was expelled for misbehaviour.
Before embarking on his career as a writer he served in the U.S. Navy as a Midshipman, which greatly influenced many of his novels and other writings. He is best remembered as a novelist who wrote numerous sea-stories and the five historical novels of the frontier period known as the Leatherstocking Tales. Among naval historians Cooper's works on the early U.S. Navy have been well received, but they were sometimes criticized by his contemporaries. Among his most famous works is the Romantic novel The Last of the Mohicans, often regarded as his masterpiece
